Screed Calculator

Floor screed by volume and weight — as pre-mixed bags or your own sand and cement.

Updated 2026-10-20 · Based on: coverage figures from paint and drywall makers (USG).

How to use the Screed Calculator

  1. Enter the floor size and screed thickness (50 mm bonded or 65–75 mm floating is typical).
  2. Pick the mix ratio for site mixing (1:4 is standard).
  3. Read the bags, or cement and sand.

Formula

Screed volume = length × width × thickness; laid screed weighs about 2,000 kg/m³.

Site mix: dry volume = 1.3 × wet volume, split by the cement : sand ratio.

Frequently asked questions

How much screed for 20 m² at 50 mm?

1.1 m³ — about 88 bags of 25 kg pre-mix including 10 % extra.

What is the best screed mix?

1 part cement to 4 parts sharp sand (1:4) for most floors; 1:3 for thin or heavy-duty screeds.

How long does screed take to dry?

Roughly 1 day per mm for the first 40 mm, then slower — a 50 mm screed needs about 6–8 weeks before moisture-sensitive flooring.
